Largest IDNs in Ohio

Ohio is the 7th largest state in the U.S. by population. There are more than 320 hospitals in Ohio, many of which are part of a broader integrated delivery network (IDN) or health system.

When it comes to targeting organizations as part of your healthcare commercialization strategy, knowing which IDNs in Ohio are the largest can prove invaluable. Whether you’re selling medical devices to health systems or looking to implement a new technology, targeting health systems that are large and financially strong could allow for greater distribution of your product or service among the IDN’s affiliated hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, clinics, and imaging centers. Ultimately, the broader the network an IDN has, the more facilities your product or service can be distributed at, and the greater your potential impact.

Using HospitalView, we’ve compiled a list of IDNs in Ohio based on net patient revenue (NPR) and affiliated hospital count.

What Ohio IDN has the highest net patient revenue (NPR)?

The IDN in Ohio with the highest net patient revenue is Cleveland Clinic Health System, with an NPR of $11.7 billion, which places them on the list of top IDNs in the US based on NPR.

The IDN with the second highest NPR in Ohio is Bon Secours Mercy Health, with an NPR of $8.9 billion. This high NPR is likely related to their high number of discharges, which are among the highest in the nation. Their NPR also makes them one of the highest-earning IDNs in the US.

Finally, the University Hospitals Health System has the third-highest revenue in Ohio, with an NPR of $6.6 billion. One of their hospitals, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, is among the nation’s leading children’s hospitals.

NPR, as the revenue received from patient services after removing various deductions, is a key indicator of an IDN’s financial strength. However, it is not the only metric that is important to consider—other key IDN metrics to consider when targeting marketing efforts include the prescription patterns, integration level, and relationships of an IDN.

The value in targeting Ohio IDNs

When you’re looking to sell into Ohio’s healthcare industry, having a strategy is essential to ensure that every effort made sees profitable returns. Targeted marketing, in particular, is the best way to reach IDNs, especially in today’s consolidating healthcare market, where IDNs are responsible for making more decisions than ever.

Whether it’s a product or service that you’re bringing to market, knowing which Ohio IDNs have the most affiliated hospitals and the highest NPR can help you designate sales territories, narrow down a target list, and personalize marketing efforts to better secure a deal. In the world of targeted marketing, knowledge truly is power and can save you time and money in the long run while increasing your revenue.
