Top 25 physician groups by PCOS diagnoses
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), also known as polycystic ovarian syndrome, is a hormonal imbalance and metabolic health problem that affects between 6% and 12% of all U.S. women of childbearing age. PCOS is one of the most common causes of female infertility.
To bring attention to this condition, the National Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association promotes PCOS Awareness Month each September.
Using data from the Definitive Healthcare ClaimsMx product, we analyzed physician groups by patient visits for PCOS in 2021. This list shows the top physician groups by their percent of patient encounters for PCOS.

Which physician groups have the most PCOS diagnoses?
CareMount Medical PC in Poughkeepsie, New York had the most PCOS claims in 2021 (1.9% of PCOS visits at physician groups) followed by Reproductive Medicine Associates in Basking Ridge, New Jersey (1.4%).
Three of the top four physician groups by PCOS visits are located in New York, including Northwell Health Physician Partners, which is one of the largest physician groups in the country.
What types of specialists work with PCOS patients?
People living with PCOS usually have excessive levels of androgens, or male hormones, as well as insulin resistance. If left untreated, insulin resistance related to PCOS can result in type 2 diabetes.
Because PCOS is a condition predominantly caused by hormonal imbalance, most PCOS patients will be treated by endocrinologists—doctors who specialize in hormonal disorders. However, PCOS symptoms extend beyond the endocrine system and may include
- hair loss or excessive growth
- skin conditions, such as acne
- reproductive complications
- menstrual irregularity
- weight loss or gain
Due to the wide range of PCOS symptoms, patients may see a variety of specialists including dermatologists, gynecologists or reproductive specialists, and nutritionists
