What South Carolina hospitals have the highest net patient revenue?
The South Carolina hospital with the highest net patient revenue is the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Medical Center, which is part of the state’s only comprehensive academic health system. It is located in Charleston, SC, and has an annual NPR of $2.6 billion, a feat that it accomplishes despite having only the 5th highest number of beds. It also ranks amongst the top 50 hospitals in the U.S. by NPR. Additionally, the MUSC Medical Center is ranked #1 in South Carolina for both adult and children services by U.S. News & World Report.
The MUSC Medical Center includes four hospitals (Children’s Hospital, Institute of Psychiatry, University Hospital, and Ashley River Tower) and an NCI-designed cancer center. All of these facilities likely lend to the high NPR reported by this hospital. The MUSC Medical Center is also one of only two national telehealth Centers of Excellence.
The South Carolina hospital with the second-highest NPR at $1.5 billion is the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. With 721 beds, the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital has the most beds of all South Carolina Hospitals. It also has a 24-hour Level 1 Trauma Center and a Level III Neonatal ICU. Lexington Medical Center has the third-highest NPR in South Carolina, with an NPR of $1.4 billion. Interestingly, this hospital is one of only three hospitals on this list that isn’t a part of an IDN. This teaching hospital is an accredited Cancer Center of Excellence and has South Carolina’s first HeartCARE Center, as recognized by the American College of Cardiology.
