Top 20 hospitals by gastroenterology procedure volume

Gastrointestinal (GI) conditions are common and, usually, relatively mild. Issues of the stomach, esophagus, intestines, and other gastroenterological concerns are listed as the primary diagnosis for about 66.4 million ambulatory care visits annually.

What is gastroenterology?

Gastroenterology is the field of medicine that focuses on treating complications and illnesses related to the human digestive system. Gastroenterology is supported and enabled by a wide range of pharmaceutical therapies and medical devices, including intragastric balloons, duodenoscopes, band ligators, and more.

What is a gastroenterologist?

Gastroenterologists study and treat afflictions and structural changes of the GI tract, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, rectum, pancreas gallbladder, and liver.

In 2024, more than 18,700 gastroenterologists were actively practicing in the U.S.

Most gastroenterology procedures are performed as outpatient care. If you’re selling medical devices, supplies, or pharmaceutical therapies into the gastroenterology market, you can find sales opportunities by identifying hospitals and other outpatient care facilities with high volumes of gastroenterology procedures.
