Top ACOs in New York by gross savings

Accountable care organizations (ACOs) are collaborative networks of physicians, hospitals, and healthcare providers who work together voluntarily to deliver coordinated care to specific patient populations. By working together, New York accountable care organizations aim to improve the quality of care while reducing overall healthcare costs.

At Definitive Healthcare, we use ConnectedCareView to track which New York accountable care organizations generated the most Medicare savings in 2024. This commercial intelligence tool calculates gross savings by comparing the ACO’s total expenditures with its total beneficiary expenditures. The resulting figure represents either savings or losses, which are then shared between the ACO and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). By providing this information, ConnectedCareView enables us to create a comprehensive list of ACOs by state, including a detailed list of ACOs in New York.

What are the benefits of an ACO?

An ACO offers numerous benefits to both healthcare providers and patients by fostering collaboration among different components of the healthcare system. By ensuring that all parties involved in patient care—whether primary care physicians, specialists, or hospitals—work together, ACOs improve care quality while reducing unnecessary costs. Here are three key benefits:

  • Improved care coordination: New York ACOs connect different healthcare providers into one unified team. This minimizes gaps in patient care, reduces duplicate tests, and ensures that treatments are timely and necessary, resulting in more efficient use of healthcare resources.
  • Patient-centered care: ACOs emphasize patient involvement in their care plans, enabling patients to work closely with their healthcare providers. This allows patients to make informed decisions, leading to higher satisfaction and better overall health outcomes.
  • Cost savings: By focusing on preventative care and reducing unnecessary procedures, ACOs help control healthcare costs. This benefits both providers and patients, as it ensures that resources are used effectively, lowering overall expenditures and improving patient access to high-quality care.
