Largest IDNs in Colorado

Colorado is the 21st largest state in the U.S. by population. There are nearly 120 hospitals and healthcare facilities in Colorado, many of which are part of a broader integrated delivery network (IDN).

IDNs are networks of one or more healthcare facilities, including hospitals, health clinics, physician groups, imaging centers, or ambulatory surgery centers. Thus, the larger an IDN you target, the greater opportunity there is for your company to reach more facilities and have a greater impact on the healthcare industry.

With help from Definitive Healthcare’s HospitalView, we created two lists: one of the largest IDNs in Colorado based on the number of affiliated hospitals and another of the most financially successful IDNs in Colorado based on NPR.

What Colorado IDN has the highest net patient revenue (NPR)?

The Colorado IDN with the highest net patient revenue is UCHealth, with an NPR of $6.3 billion.

The IDN with the second highest NPR in Colorado is HCA Continental Division – HCA HealthOne, with an NPR of $2.8 billion. It is a part of the parent IDN HCA Healthcare, which is one of the top IDNs across the US when ranking based on NPR. HCA Healthcare also has the greatest number of beds and discharges across the US, all of which contribute to its higher NPR and a greater likelihood for continued expansion thanks to its high revenues.

Children’s Hospital Colorado System IDN has the third-highest NPR in Colorado, with an NPR of $1.6 billion. Their flagship hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, is ranked as the #1 hospital in Colorado by U.S. News & World Report.

Net patient revenue (NPR) is the amount of money an IDN makes for their patient services. As such, the greater the NPR, the greater an IDN’s financial strength. However, for those looking to target their marketing strategies, it’s important to consider more than NPR, with other key metrics being prescription patterns, referrals, and relationships.

Targeting IDNs in Colorado

Selling into the healthcare space is complicated, and even more so when you’re looking to target IDNs since each has a unique model. As such, understanding Colorado’s broader health system landscape is essential for aiding your strategic decisions.

Hospitals are no longer the primary focus of care providers and patients; instead, IDNs are becoming more and more responsible for covering all aspects of patient care, making them a valuable target for suppliers. Whether you’re looking to sell a product or service, marketing to IDNs allows you to take advantage of their wide range of care facilities, especially if you market to IDNs with large networks.
