Anonymized patient level data (APLD)
What is anonymized patient level data (APLD)?
APLD encompasses all the information needed to create a comprehensive understanding of a patient’s medical history, such as how many therapies they have tried, the number of doctor visits they have had (and with what types of doctors), and the time they spent on each therapy. When collected, the data paints a clearer picture of the patient’s health journey.
APLD is collected based on insurance claim records, and the patient’s name and identity are removed so that only information about the health journey is provided. The goal of APLD is not to examine one patient’s journey but to analyze the journey of multiple patients with similar medical conditions.
How can providers leverage APLD?
Providers can use APLD to target the right patients with the right information.
Pharmaceutical companies can use APLD to see which medical conditions are likely to be prescribed their product, which types of patients are more likely to continue using the product (based on refills), or which patients see complete recovery, which can be gauged by the number of patients who do not return to the doctor. All of this information can guide marketing and future innovation efforts.
As for healthcare facilities, they can use APLD to better understand their patient population and see if any blockages in the care pathway of a particular medical condition need to be addressed. This can promote a smoother experience for future patients.
