American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE)
What is the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE)?
AONE is a national organization comprised of nurses who design, manage, and facilitate care. This organization was established in 1967 and provides professional development, leadership, advocacy, and research to advance both patient care and the practice of nursing, shape public healthcare policy, and promote excellence within nursing leadership. AONE is a subsidiary of the American Hospital Association (AHA).
The AONE:
- Provides actionable steps for nursing leadership to help meet society’s healthcare needs
- Offers member services that support and enhance the leadership, management, education, and professional development of nursing leaders
- Influences legislation and public policy related to nursing and patient care issues
- Facilitates and supports research and development intended to advance nursing administration practice
How does the American Organization of Nurse Executives improve healthcare?
The AONE supports and drives excellence in nursing care. They believe that all nurses in leadership positions should be competent in communication, relationship building, the healthcare environment, professionalism, leadership, and business skills. When leadership-position nurses are more qualified, they can then provide better patient care, not only through their own efforts but those of all other nurses that they advise.
