Admission Discharge Transfer System/ADT Feed
What is the Admission Discharge Transfer (ADT) System?
The ADT is a prime hospital workflow that helps to manage the hospital’s admission, discharge, and transfer process. It stores patient information, such as names, ages, medical record numbers, and contact information, and ADT systems track patients from the moment they arrive at a hospital to when they depart through discharge, transfer, or death.
One aspect of the ADT system is the ADT feed, which provides notifications within the patient’s electronic health records (EHRs) that alert any of their healthcare providers when the patient receives interventions from other physicians. This allows the patient’s care team to better monitor the services they receive, which can improve the value of a patient’s care.
What are the benefits of the ADT System?
The ADT system makes it easy to record and access patient admission data; with an improved workflow for the ADT process, hospital productivity rises, and patients receive better healthcare.
For instance, when a patient with a history of a particular disease is admitted, the ADT system will notify the staff to undergo specific healthcare activities. This allows for more prompt treatment and can prevent the need for readmission.
ADT feeds also allow for continued surveillance even after a patient leaves the healthcare facility, allowing a healthcare provider to continue monitoring their care and be informed when (and why) the patient needs to seek additional services.
