It’s hard to believe it, but Definitive Healthcare just turned 10 years old. From a small startup to a company with more than 2,500 clients, Definitive Healthcare now plays an important role in providing healthcare commercial intelligence to companies across the healthcare ecosystem. It’s been an incredible journey so far.
In the early days of Definitive Healthcare
The healthcare and technology landscape in 2011 certainly looked different than it does today. The Affordable Health Care Act was still in its infancy, having passed in 2010. The move from fee-for-service to value-based care had just started. EHRs were still being implemented and adopted by hospitals across the country. The healthcare industry was on the precipice of significant change.
During this time, I saw an opportunity to bring together data and technology to make sense of the U.S. healthcare market. I launched Definitive Healthcare in 2011 with a simple and straightforward goal – to help our clients build a path to commercial success in healthcare.
The first product we launched was a scaled-back version of today’s HospitalView product. With an incredibly small team, we managed to sign our first client in June 2011. Once we had that first client on board, I knew we had something special.
Over the first year in business, we introduced two new products to provide further insights on the healthcare provider market, signed our 100th client, and hired our 10th employee. And since then, we haven’t stopped growing or innovating.
The Definitive Healthcare of today
Now, 10 years later, we’re still continuing to deliver on the original vision of making sense of the U.S. healthcare market.
Healthcare is still an incredibly complex industry to navigate. It’s one of the largest markets out there as it represents nearly 18% of U.S. GDP. Anyone who has tried to sell into the healthcare industry knows just how hard it is.
I’m proud that we’ve now become the one-stop shop to help companies understand the entire healthcare ecosystem. Since we launched with our original hospitals product, we’ve grown and expanded our offerings to cover everything from hospitals to physicians to medical claims and pharmaceutical claims.
We’ve also brought the latest data science to our product suite to deliver the healthcare commercial intelligence companies need to understand the market context and market contacts across the healthcare industry. Our products now form the backbone for the go-to-market strategy and decision-making for nearly 2,500 customers across numerous verticals – from biopharma to medical devices to healthcare technology.
Outside of the progress we’ve made in providing our customers with a 360-degree view of the healthcare landscape, I’m also tremendously proud of how Definitive Healthcare’s culture has grown and evolved over the years.
Definitive Healthcare has always attracted people who want to feel part of something bigger than themselves. We’ve also always had an employee base that was deeply engaged in giving back to our community.
Even though we’ve experienced strong growth in size over the years and now have over 600 employees , I’m proud of the award-winning company culture we’ve cultivated over the years. From DefinitiveCares to our affinity groups, our employees continue to find ways to give back to others and find a home here at Definitive Healthcare.

As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, you’ll notice some exciting new changes from us. First off, we have a brand-new website designed to help you find the healthcare commercial intelligence you need to navigate the complex healthcare ecosystem.
Given all the progress we’ve made over the last decade, we also felt it was time for a refreshed, more modern visual identity. I’m thrilled with our new look and feel. It ties perfectly into our core mission: to transform data, analytics, and expertise into healthcare commercial intelligence to help our clients sell into and compete in the healthcare market.
I’m so immensely proud of all the hard work everyone has contributed to making Definitive Healthcare the company it is today, but I know we’re still at the beginning of Definitive Healthcare’s story.
As I look ahead, we will continue to invest in rapid innovation and will continue to deliver even more of the healthcare commercial intelligence needed to meet tomorrow’s challenges. I hope you will join us on this journey, and I cannot wait to see what the next decade brings.
